Obituary

Robert E. Hunewill passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. He was 89 years of age. Robert was born in Melrose on January 12, 1922 to the late Lawrence & Anna (Moran) Hunewill. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1941 and has been a lifelong resident. Robert served in the merchant marine during WWII. Mr. Hunewill started the Hunnewill Oil Company in Melrose in 1947 and ran the company until 1975 when he sold it to Fawcett Oil Company in Cambridge. He continued to work at Fawcett until his retirement in 1982. Robert enjoyed snowmobiling and boating at the cottage he built in 1965 on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, NH. Mr. Hunewill loved working with his hands, working on small engines, tinkering with his tools and could fix anything. He was a member and past master at the King Solomon's Lodge AF & AM in Somerville and was a member of the Fidelity Lodge of Masons in Melrose. Robert was a member of the Trintiy Episcopal Church in Melrose where he participated in the couples club and built toys for the fair. He loved to travel and enjoyed his trips to Europe and Alaska. Mr. Hunewill was the beloved husband of Barbara "Polly" (Pickering) Hunewill. Loving father of Kimberly A. Hall & her husband Pat-Kevin of Melrose and Barbara L. Moretto & her husband Nicholas of Clifton Park, NY. Devoted grandfather of Nicholas, Robert & Michaella. Brother of Lawrence R. Hunewill Jr. of Natick, Constance Campbell of NH, Kenneth Hunewill of FL, Patricia Burnham of ME, Mary LeBlanc of Melrose, Beverly Gerade of Wilmington, Grace Pinkham of VA and the late John & Leon Hunewill. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 131 W. Emerson St. on Tuesday May 10th at 11AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to the Shriner's Burns Institute, 51 Blossom St. Boston, MA 02114.
