Robert P. Murphy died after a long illness at home Jan.24th at the age of 76.He was born and brought up in Cambridge, Graduated from Cambridge Schools and attended Boston University studying business management. He worked as a production manager for 2 prominent Men's Neckwear Manufacturers in Boston for most of his life. Robert then worked for John Hancock Insurance Co. for a few years, retiring from John Hancock Co.. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #128 of Melrose where he was the oldest living past grand knight, a 4th degree knight and was the grand knight during construction and completion of their current building. Robert has lived in Melrose the past 46yrs and served in the Army Air Corps in the pacific during WWII. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery of Melrose. Robert P. Murphy was the husband of Janina M. (Chmielewski) Murphy. Father of Robert P. Murphy Jr. of Melrose, Gary W. Murphy & his wife Anne of PA, Janina M. Murphy Jr. & her husband Robert Glabicky of Marblehead, Kevin C. Murphy & his wife Beth of Sagamore Beach and Christine M. Daugsiewicz & her husband Philip of Melrose. Brother of William Murphy of Melrose, Eleanor Sullivan of Reading and Phyllis Murphy of Watertown Grandfather of Patrick Rhodes Murphy, Bridget & Danielle Daugsiewicz, Christopher & Caitlin Murphy, Nicholas, Daniel, Andrew & Michael Glabicky and Janina Brooke Murphy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sat. Jan 27th at 8 AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church Herbert St. Melrose at 9 AM.
