Robert W. Bobby Schmidt of Melrose died suddenly on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at his home. He was only 57 years old. Born on June 8, 1953 in Everett, a son to Alice E. (Libby) Schmidt & the late Edward A. Schmidt, he was raised in Everett and a 1972 graduate of Everett High School. Bobby was the Low Hurdles State Champion as a sophomore while attending Everett High. He was the owner of Bobs Auto Body of Reading for 25 years. Mr. Schmidt was a born caregiver and enjoyed helping people whenever anyone was in need. He loved his nieces and nephews, his boat, the camp at Newfound Lake, cooking, planning parties, impersonating Elvis and his excavator. He was the devoted husband of Joanne E. (Hennis) Schmidt, with whom they shared 32 years of marriage. He was the loving son of Alice E. (Libby) Schmidt & the late Edward A. Schmidt. Caring brother of Edward A. Schmidt, Jr. & his wife Jeanne of Bristol, NH, Pamela J. Hurst & her husband John of Wilmington, Heidi J. Gostanian & her husband Michael, also of Wilmington, Allison J. MacMillan & her husband Edward of N. Andover & the late Glenn A. Schmidt. Son-in-law of Anna & Les Pike & the late Jeff Hennis. Brother-in-law of Paula A. Taylor & her husband Bruce of Hamilton. Special uncle of Edward A. III, Glenn & Erik Schmidt, John & Michael Hurst, Brandon & Bobby Gostanian, Alex, Kelsey & Lauren MacMillan, Meridith, Taylor, Kerrie & Natalie. Visiting hours Sunday, January 23rd from 2-6PM in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Family & friends respectfully invited. Funeral Service will follow at 6:30PM.
