Robert J. Taylor, of Melrose, died at the Kindred Hospital in Peabody on March 8, 2008 at the age of 84. He was born in Boston & raised in Malden and a graduate of Malden High School. Bob resided in Malden until 1954 before moving to Stoneham for 17 years and the past 37 years in Melrose. He worked as an Office Manager for Gormley Motor Transportation in Medford & Sav-Mor in Everett for many years before his retirement at the age of 75. Bob served in the Navy during WWII and was very active in the Stoneham Elks Lodge # 2211, holding every office in the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Melrose Fish & Game for many years. Bob was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis E. (Carroll) Taylor. Loving father of Richard L. Taylor & his wife Karen of Maryland and Robert P. Taylor & his wife Nancy of Burlington. Caring grandfather of Robert, Betsy, Robin, Benjamin and Spencer. Great grandfather of Joseph, Roman, Alex and Crystal. Caring brother of Thelma Marino and the late Norman & Ralph Taylor and Pauline Terpiloff. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday March 13th at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
