Robert F. Umano Jr. passed away at his home in Wakefield on July 4, 2014. He was only 53 years of age. Robert was born in Brockton, raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1979. Mr. Umano was a licensed electrician and he worked for Mass Electric Construction in Waltham for over 25 years and was a member of the I.B.E.W Local 103 in Boston. Bob loved biking, the beach, the ocean and traveling; whether it was overseas or traveling to Sanibel Island in Florida or hiking in the mountains of Maine. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Robert was the beloved husband of Melissa (Perkins) Umano. Cherished son of Merlene (Herbert) Umano of Melrose & her late husband Robert. Loving brother of Catherine Karelas & her husband Ernie of Melrose, Ann Marie Roth & her husband Neil of Melrose, Carolyn Umano of Saugus and Richard Umano of Wilmington. Devoted son-in-law of James & Sigrid Perkins of North Reading. Beloved brother-in-law of Christine Perkins of Medford, Julie & Chip Phillips of CA & Anne Perkins of Rockport. Caring uncle of Christen, Peter, Angela, Nicholas, Adam & Emma. Also survived by numerous family members & friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. Melrose on Thursday, July 10th at 8:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St. Wakefield, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday at the funeral home 4-8PM. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
