Robert C. Wentzell, of Melrose, died at home after a lengthy illness at the age of 58. Robert was a lifelong Melrose resident and a graduate of Melrose High School. He was in the Coast Guard during Vietnam and a member of the VFW LT. Norman Prince, Post 1506 & the Elks Club, both in Melrose for many years. Robert was a Boston Police officer for over 20 years until his retirement in 1994 and also coached Melrose Babe Ruth Baseball for over 10 years. He was the devoted husband of Marguerite (Stentiford) Wentzell of Stoneham. Loving father of Joanne W. Fortier & her husband David of Melrose, Michael R. Wentzell & his wife Daphne of Medford, Justina A. Wentzell & Amanda J. Wentzell, both of Stoneham. Cherished brother of Richard K. Wentzell of Charlotte, NC and Susan J. Garrant of Atkinson, NH. Devoted grandfather of Tyler Jones, Jacob & Jonathan Fortier, all of Melrose, Robert & Mackenzie Wentzell of Medford, Erich Donovan and Klaudia Delorey, both of Stoneham. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday night from 4-8PM. Relatives & friends invited. There will be no funeral service and burial will be private.
