Obituary

Roger L. Richard, of Beverly, formerly of Medford, passed away at his home on September 14, 2022. He was 93 years old.

Roger was the beloved husband of the late Anna T. (Bernhard) Richard. Loving father of Stephen Richard and his wife Ginny Richard of Lynnfield and Michelle Arkins and her partner Donald DeWart of Topsfield. Cherished grandfather of Melanie Richard of NY, Erica Richard of Somerville, Stephanie Arkins of NY and Jacqueline Arkins of Topsfield. Brother of the late Gerald Richard & his late wife Doris, the late Leonard Richard & his wife Opal of Ottawa, Canada and the late Donald Richard & his wife Lynn of New Brunswick, Canada. Brother-in-Law of the late Thomas Bernhard & his late wife Rita. Dear cousin of Elizabeth Poirier and Louise LeBlanc, both of Waltham and the late Catherine "Kay" Haché, Eva McCumiskey, Alphee Landry, Joseph Landry and Paul Landry. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.

He was a graduate of Northeastern University in 1962 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He spent his entire professional career of 45 years at Artisan Industries in Waltham, MA (now Stoughton, MA). During his tenure he held many positions, the latest being the Manager of Quality Control, a critical position as Artisan developed many complicated products serving many industries, including nuclear power.

Prior to his career at Artisan, Roger served in the US Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Army Corp of Engineers and served his country proudly.

Roger was born in Waltham MA but spent his early years growing up in Moncton NB after the family moved there during the Great Depression. Roger, being adventurous, moved back to the US as a teenager and lived with his dear Aunt, Uncle and cousins, the Landry family, during his initial years back in the US, prior to marrying Anna.

Together with Anna, they treasured their many friends and family members with whom they frequently socialized and traveled to many locations around the Globe. In particular they enjoyed cruises and their final count is 47 cruises. Roger and Anna visited all the continents but Antarctica and more than 50 countries. They enjoyed their retirement years spending the winter months in Florida. Most recently Roger spent his time at home at Colonial Gardens where he enjoyed frequent cribbage games and meal times with good friends, especially Woody.

Roger was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and in later years the Arlington Men's Club as well as the VFW. Roger was an active sports fan and participant. His first love was ice hockey both as a player and avid fan of the sport. His love of hockey and proficiency at the sport were developed during his days in New Brunswick playing originally with his brothers and later in organized teams. This continued upon his return to the US when he played on the Medford K of C team and Sunday afternoon pond hockey with Stephen and his friends.

Roger also had a love for golf and played with the Artisan Industries league, the Arlington men's league and with family members and friends into his 80's. He also volunteered as a coach in the Medford Little League. He will be remembered as a gentleman with respect for all and a great listener and conversationalist.
