Ronald Edwin Cox, 83, of Melrose, Massachusetts passed away on October 3, 2026 peacefully in his sleep.

Born on June 23, 1943 in Weymouth, MA to Edwin and Edna Cox. He graduated from Braintree High School, then served in the United States Navy. He spent 35 years in the Banking industry and left his position as Assistant Vice President of US Trust in 1996. He married Irene Ferreira, his beloved wife of 52 years, in 1974. Together they raised three children, David, Patricia, and Amanda.

Ron liked to spend his free time doing jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, and sudoku and spending time with his 6 grandchildren, who he absolutely adored. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Melrose and donated his time to various causes including the Bread of Life.

He is survived by his wife (Irene), his children David, Patricia (Adam), Amanda (David) and his grandchildren Joshua, Zachary, Abigail, Jack, Lucas, and Eleanor; his siblings Carl, Elaine and Arlene, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Edna.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster Street, Melrose on Thursday October 8, 2026, from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose on Friday October 9, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Interment to follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
