Rose E. (Hogan) Bell passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a brief illness. She was 93 years of age. Rose was born in Everett, MA to the late Jeremiah & Rebecca (Karno) Hogan, was raised in Everett and graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1937, where she was class secretary. She was married in June, 1942 to Robert L. Bell, whom she had met while they were class officers together at Everett High School. In 1956, they moved Melrose for 26 years, Sarasota, Florida for 20 years, and recently at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA. Rose worked alongside her husband Robert for over 40 years in the family businesses, including Bell's Card Shop in Melrose, and Harvard Supply Company, Bruce Humphries Publishing and Crescendo Publishing. She enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, gardening, loved to dance and was an avid reader. Mrs. Bell was one of the early parishioners of Incarnation Church in Melrose where she taught CCD. Rose was a longtime member of Bellevue Golf Club and a former member of the Melrose Women's Club, as well as the Meadows Country Club and Longboat Key Beach Club in Sarasota, FL. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend, who cherished the times spent with her family. Mrs. Bell was the beloved wife of the late Robert L. Bell; loving mother of Marlene T. Bell of Osterville, Robert L. Bell Jr. & his wife Jean of Melrose, Stephen J. Bell & his wife Rosemary of Wayland and Christine C. Bell & her husband Robert Means of Melrose; beloved sister of Lorraine Guarino of Everett, MA and the late Evelyn Hurley, Father Cornelius Hogan, Vivian Haggerty and Dr. Gerald Hogan; devoted grandmother of Dawn, Jennifer, Rebecca, Nathan, Stephen Jr., Michael, Stephanie, Michaela, Alastair-Ian and the late Leonard Scott Andre; and also survived by 9 great grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday August 9th at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
