Rose M. Romano, of Melrose, formerly of Wakefield, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on March 3, 2015 at the age of 93. Rose was born & raised in Wakefield and a graduate of Wakefield High School & Burdett Business School. She resided in Wakefield for many years and the past 19 years in Melrose. Rose began a life-long career in investment analysis and counseling, working for 20 years at May & Gannon, 29 years at John P. Chase Inc. in Boston where she was Secretary to the late Henry Walter, Vice-President. Julia Child was one of her accounts. Henry Walter and his family became dear friends, each year inviting Rose and her family to their beautiful home in the mountains of Plymouth, NH. Her last position, for the next five years, was at Loomis Sayles & Co., after which she "retired" in her 70s to care for her brother, Tony, who was a severe diabetic. After his death, in 1994, she moved to Melrose Towers in Melrose, MA.
She enjoyed cooking, knitting, cross word puzzles, and scrabble. She was a talented seamstress and made many outfits for her nieces and herself. Rose was a prolific reader, and an excellent flower gardener. Family was most important to Rose. She was always there for them, and loved them unconditionally.
Rose will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She volunteered at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital and was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Church in Wakefield. Rose was the loving daughter of the late Peter & Mary Romano. Caring sister of the late Lena Rotondi & Anthony Romano and sister-in-law to the late Armand "Mundy" Rotondi. Devoted aunt of Susan Rotondi, Elaine Rotondi, both of Melrose and the late Peter Rotondi. Great aunt of Nicole Maynard-Sahar & her husband Dr. Christoph Sahar of RI. Great great aunt of Lucas Sahar of RI. Cousin of Esther Seip & her husband Joseph of Reading. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, March 10th from 10-11:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 12PM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
