Russell T. Galiano passed away at the Mary Immaculate Nursing/Restorative Center in Lawrence on Monday, September 17, 2012. He was 98 years of age. Mr. Galiano was born in Boston of February 10, 1914 to the late William & Mabel (Byrnes) Galiano, he was raised in Hull and graduated from Hingham High School in 1934. Russell entered the New England Aircraft School at Boston University before entering the US Armed Forces. Mr. Galiano served his country proudly in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He lived in Melrose from 1949-1972, where he was a member of the First Untied Methodist Church, in Georgia for 33 years and the past 2 years in Lawrence. Russell worked as an aircraft mechanic for Delta Airlines for 33 years, was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Mt. Hood Golf Course and Lake Spivey Golf Club in Jonesboro, GA. Russell also enjoyed ballroom dancing with his late wife Mary. Mr. Galiano was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Mary (Morriessey) Galiano. Devoted father of James M. Galiano & his wife Alyce of N. Andover and John D. Galiano & his fiancée Linda Ryan of Melrose. Loving grandfather of Diane Kelly of TX, Elizabeth Galiano of NY, Tamara Bagnel of NC, John D. Galiano Jr. of Wakefield and Brian J. Galiano of Melrose. Great grandfather of Erin Kelly. Brother of the late Ruth Chapman & Florence Landers. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sunday, September 23rd from 2:00-5:00PM, followed by at funeral service with military honors @ 5:00PM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose will be private.
