Ruth M. Norton, of Melrose, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on July 31, 2009 at the age of 90. Ruth was born in Malden, raised in Melrose and a graduate of Melrose High School. She worked as a Bookkeeper for John-Mansville Manufacturing Corp in Boston for many years before her retirement. Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Melrose for 75 years and a member of the Wyoming Circle Group at her church. She enjoyed vacationing in York Beach Maine and was dedicated to taking care of her mother. Ruth was the loving daughter of the late Dennett & Mabel (Velmure) Norton. Caring sister of Shirley Meredith of Melrose. Cherished Aunt of Susan Treasure & her husband Michael of Great Britain, Christine Meredith & her husband Denny of Melrose and Deborah Porter & her husband Floyd of Chelsea. Great aunt of Mandy & Nicholas Porter, David & Laura Treasure and Jonathan & Eric Meredith. A funeral will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, August 5th at 11:30AM. Officiating will be the Rev. Demaris Cami-Staples from the First Baptist Church of Melrose. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held 1 hour prior to the service from 10:30-11:30AM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
