Santina L. "Sandy" (Valeri) Shinay passed away at the Epoch of Melrose on April 30, 2014. She was 93 years of age. Santina was born in Revere on March 23, 1921 to the late Arcangelo & Assunta Valeri. She was raised in Revere, attended Revere High School, lived in Malden for a few years, Saugus for several years and has resided in Melrose evere since. Mrs. Shinay worked as a cosmetic buyer for the Jordan Marsh Company, as a sales clerk at Hills in downtown Melrose, at the True Value Store before purchasing the Karisma Card Shop in Melrose which she ran for over 10 years. Sandy was very active in the Melrose community; as a volunteer at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital gift shop, the first woman President of the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, she helped organize the very first Victorian Fair and as a music lover she was a supporter of the Melrose Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Shinay was also very active at the Saugus Senior Center. Sandy was the beloved wife of the late Michael J. Shinay. Loving mother of John C. Shinay & Mary Jane Milano of Rochester, NY, Maria Morris & Tim of Melrose, Pat Kelley & John of Melrose and Carol Maguire of FL. Devoted grandmother of David & Brittany Shinay and Michael, Sean & LT Timothy Morris, USMC. Loving sister of Margaret Castinetti, Mary Simpson, Carmen Valeri & Barbara and Dolly Valerio. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, on Monday, May 5th at 11AM, followed by the interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
