Sharon M. Murphy of Melrose died suddenly on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at her home. She was only 57 years old. Born on April 21, 1953 in Boston, a daughter to the late George & Miriam (Duffy) Murphy, she was raised in the Fields Corner section of Dorchester and then Peabody. She was a 1971 graduate of Peabody High School, received her Bachelor's Degree from St. Mary's of the Woods College in Indiana and then her Master's Degree from Southern Louisiana University. Ms. Murphy worked as a teacher in Louisiana, the Parkway School in Revere and St. Mary's Grammar School in Melrose. She was a member of the Forestdale Community Church of Malden, enjoyed going to church, bible study, music, was an avid reader, especially John Grisham and religion books and loved her cats. Sharon volunteered in the Mayor of Melrose's Office and the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Research Room. She taught English to young children in China and traveled to many bible study camps. She was the loving sister of Maureen Hudson & her husband John of North Reading, step-daughter of Miriam Murphy Cullen of Uxbridge, Caring Aunt of Peter Hudson of Tyngsboro, Kimberley Howe & her husband Derek of North Reading, Corinne Crossley & her husband Andy of Stoughton. Great Aunt of Emma, Sarah, Julia & Annika. A Funeral Service will be held in the Forestdale Community Church, 235 Forest St., Malden on Monday, January 10th at 10AM. Family & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury. Arrangements by The Gately Funeral Home of Melrose.
