Obituary

Shaun O'Donnell, of Malden, died on July 21, 2014 at the age of 68. Shaun was born & raised in Everett, a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1963 and went on to earn his degree from Northeastern University. He was a longtime Malden resident and worked as an educator for the city of Malden for many years. Shaun also worked as a Home Instruction Tutor in Malden, at the after school program at the Malden YMCA for 16 years, Malden Senior Center transporting elderly and also as a Lifeguard at Nahant Beach for 25 years before his retirement. He was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing and was a big follower of the Everett High Football team which he played on several championship teams. Shaun played semi pro football for the Eastern Football League and coached football in Revere. He delivered thanksgiving dinners and volunteered at the Bread of Life in Malden. Shaun was the glue to his family, always had a great attitude and never missed a game or sporting event for many of his nieces, nephews and grandnieces & grandnephews. He loved to travel with his wife on cruises, Ireland, Grand Cayman and North Conway. He was the beloved husband of Marlene G. (Grace) O'Donnell. Loving father of Ashley G. O'Donnell & her boyfriend Tim Lotterhand of Malden. Caring brother of Sue Ellen O'Donnell of Saugus, Jane Savage & her husband Peter of Melrose, Quentin O'Donnell & his wife Lucille of Wakefield, and the late Michael O'Donnell & his wife Bonnie of Everett, the late Dennis O'Donnell & his wife Terry of Peabody, the late Thomas O'Donnell & his wife Ann of Melrose and the late MaryAnne O'Donnell. Brother-in-law of Rosemarie Cahoon & her companion Judi Jerome of Methuen and John Grace & his girlfriend Elaina Bashore of Lynn. Uncle of Brian Grace & his wife Linda of Woburn. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and grandnieces & grandnephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, July 29th at 8AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. There are no visiting hours and burial will be private. At the families' request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Malden High School C/O Thomas F. O'Donnell Scholarship Fund, 77 Salem St., Malden, MA 02148.
