Sophie Carakatsane, of Melrose, died at her home on June 2, 2007 at the age 91. Sophie was born & raised in Melrose and a graduate of Melrose High School, where she played on the tennis team. She worked at National Radio in Melrose for 30 years and the Mass. Dept. of Revenue until her retirement at age 72. After retirement, she volunteered at the Beebe School in Melrose as a Teachers aide for 10 years and also taught Sunday School at the Greek Church in Woburn. Sophie had a great sense of humor and loved to travel to Cuba, Greece and Canada. She was the devoted daughter of the late Michael & Marigo (Sakellarakes) Carakatsane. Loving aunt of Lee Corodemus & her husband Chris of NJ, Connie Ortolani & her husband Philip of ME, Michael Carakatsane & his wife Pamela, Arthur Carakatsane & his wife Judy, all of Lynnfield, William Carakatsane of NH and the late Charles Koines & Peter Rassias. Cherished sister of the late Stella Koines, John Carakatsane and Christine Rassias. Also survived by several grand nieces & grandnephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday June 5th at 8:30AM. Funeral service from St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church, 11 Church St., Lynn, MA 01902 at 10AM. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 8:30-9:15AM. Relatives & friends invited. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
