Stephen W. Beardsley passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on March 29, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 66 years of age. Stephen was born in Cambridge on June 9, 1944 to the late Allan & Irene (Traynor) Beardsley. He was raised in Arlington, graduated from Arlington High School and has been a resident of Melrose for over 40 years. Mr. Beardsley was a self employed shoe designer and product developer, working for many years as a top out sourcing agent with the major shoe manufacturers. The past 4 years he was working for the Converse Shoe Company in the design and development department. Mr. Beardsley enjoyed traveling to the Far East and South America. He loved spending time with his family & his grandchildren and enjoyed his dogs. Stephen had a passion for restoring old cars, trucks and motorcycles. He was the beloved husband of over 30 years to Janie L. (Burke) Beardsley. Devoted father of Martha Augat of NY, Glynis Good of Quincy, Erica Stevenson & her husband Marvin of Saugus, Amy Scolaro & her husband John of Quincy, Bret Fowler of Malden, Jonathan Beardsley & his wife Nina of Braintree and Matthew Beardsley & his wife Marisa of Quincy. Loving grandfather of Patrick, Alexandra, Jessica, Carly, Nicholas, Stephen, Lily, Anna, Sydney, Lauren, Daniel, Ryan, Kathryn and the late Joshua Valliant. Former husband of Frances Beardsley of Quincy. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Saturday, April 2nd, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00-9:00PM. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
