Stephen J. Gagnon of Wakefield died at his home on Friday, February 15, 2013 after a 2 year courageous battle with cancer. He was only 61 years old. Born in Malden, Massachusetts on April 3, 1951, he lived in Malden until he was 5 years old. His family moved to Wakefield and he was raised there and graduated from Wakefield High School, class of 1969. Mr. Gagnon worked for 10 years as a self-employed carpenter and then worked for Bob Whitehorn Construction of Melrose for 25 years and finally for his brother Norman's construction company, Brookbridge Builders of Stoneham for 7 years. He loved his jobs, woodworking, growing a vegetable and flower garden, collecting paintings, glassware, pictures, prints and antiquing. He was a huge NASCAR fan and enjoyed his cars especially his 2007 Roush Mustang. He was the cherished son of Norman J. & Doris (D'Entremont) Gagnon of Wakefield, loving brother of Norman J. Gagnon & his wife Jane of Stoneham, Michael J. Gagnon of Melrose & the late Peter J. Gagnon. Caring Uncle of Sara & Susie Gagnon & David Gagnon. Former spouse & best friend of Paula Byrne. Also survived by several cousins. Funeral Service in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, February 20th at 11AM. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30-11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Interment is private.
