Steve Check Siel Yu, of Melrose, MA, passed away on October 8, 2020 at the age of 69. He was born in China, educated in Hong Kong and spent most of his life at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Steve was the first born of Jimmy Gen Yuen Yee and Oi Yuk Chu. He was the loyal husband of Forra Yu. He was the responsible father of Jonathan and Jeffrey, as well as a beloved father-in-law of Mandy Huang. He was the big brother of Phillip, Lai Ha, Lai Kuen, Greg, Lai Ngor, Lai Wan and Lyla. He was the uncle of various nephews and nieces plus being the grand uncle of many young ones, too.
Steve was a fan of various classic pop singers (such as The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Bee Gees, Neil Diamond……) and numerous Canto-pop superstars (such as Sam Hui, Teddy Robin, Teresa Tang, Leslie Chow……). In addition to movies and TV, enjoy great cuisines, playing Mahjong and watching sports were his favorite activities. Of course, he was a significant contributor of the Mass Lottery System.
If you were friends of Steve, you would definitely appreciate his hospitality and agree that he was a super nice guy. That is how he earned his nickname as "Chuck" (as Charlie Brown, the great Peanut nice guy).
A Wake will be held at Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St.,, Melrose (781-665-1949) from 4PM to 7PM on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Family shall gather at the Gately Funeral Home from 9:30AM to 10:30AM on Thursday, October 15, 2020 to pay our last respect to Steve. Due to the current Covid-19 health crisis, we would ask relatives & friends on Thursday Morning to pay their respects and return to their cars and wait for the procession to leave for the cemetery at 10:30 so that others can do the same. Burial will follow at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan Street, Melrose.
Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend these events to honor Steve. In light of the current pandemic, we need everyone to wear mask and distance accordingly.
