T. Bernadette Mahoney of Peabody, formerly of Melrose, died on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Renaissance Gardens Nursing Home in Peabody. She was 88 years old. Born on May 25, 1923 in Melrose, she was one of four children to the late George I. & Sarah A. (Ryan) Mahoney. Bernadette was raised in Melrose and a 1940 graduate of Melrose High School. She then attended the Malden Business School and Boston University. She worked as a Legal Secretary with the Hutchins & Wheeler Law Firm of Boston for over 20 years. A Melrose resident for all of her life except for the last few years being spent at Brooksby Village in Peabody, Bernadette was a Member of St. Mary's Church of Melrose, enjoyed reading, traveling, painting portraits & landscapes, knitting, crocheting, sewing, Ballroom & Folk Dancing and was known as the official family photographer. Bernadette was the loving sister of Frances Ridgley & her husband Donald of Peabody & the late M. Marie, George & Eugene Mahoney. Caring Aunt of Patricia McBride & Karen Baker, both of NH, Lucille Brunner of TX, Stephen Ridgley & his wife Janis of Amesbury, Carol Campbell & her husband Thomas of Danvers, Susan Ridgley & her husband Jeff Jones of Seattle, Marcia Ridgley of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Sharon Kendall & her husband Scott of Lexington & the late David Mahoney. Also survived by many great nieces & great nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Saturday, April 28th at 8AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours Friday 6-8PM.
