Thomas J. Calt passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital, on December 20, 2007; he was 93 years of age. Mr. Calt was born and raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School and the Boston School of Architectural Design. Tom joined the US Army Air Corps and served as a sergeant for 3 years during WWII. Mr. Calt worked for Payne Furniture in Boston for over 40 years. He worked as a buyer, head of the interior-decorating department and as vice president, while working well into his 70s. Mr. Calt and his wife Virginia were founding members of Most Blessed Sacrament Church; he was a parishioner for 61 years and served as an usher for over 40 years. Tom was well known for his great sense of humor & warm personality, he loved to work around the house, out in his yard and enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Calt liked traveling throughout the Untied States, Canada & Europe and over the past 15 summers in Booth Bay, Maine. Husband of 61 years to Virginia A. (Bauer) Calt. Father of Barbara J. Calt-Dooley & her husband Richard of Windham, NH and James L. Calt of Wakefield. Brother of the late Mary E., Catherine T., Hugh Jr., John, George, James and Daniel Calt. Brother-in-law of Doris Calt of Wakefield. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, Dec. 24th, at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5PM. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham.
