Thomas J. Campbell died at Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday Nov. 5th at the age of 72, after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Medford, graduated from Medford High School, Class of 1949 and from Boston State College, Magna Cum Laudi, in 1982. Mr. Campbell lived in Revere for a few years, Woburn for 8 years and Melrose since 1965. Tom was a US Army Korean War veteran, serving as a tank commander, he was a Disabled American Veteran and the recipient of 2 bronze stars. Mr. Campbell was an Assistant Vice President at State Street Bank, he worked for the bank for over 20 years and retired in 1993. He was a former member of the Woburn and Melrose Chamber of Commerce and a longtime member of St. Mary's Church. Tom was the dearly beloved husband of Phyllis (Mahoney) Campbell. Loving devoted father of Thomas J. Campbell Jr., Diane C. Witkowski & her husband Jan, Lisa A. Campbell and Cynthia A. Campbell all of Melrose. Beloved brother of Leo R. Campbell & his wife Suzanne of Haverhill, Richard P. Campbell of CT and the late Stephen Campbell. Beloved brother-in-law of Barbara J. Mahoney of Wakefield, Gerard E. Mahoney & his wife Edith of OR. Loving & devoted grandfather of Kevin & Kaila Campbell, Riley Campbell, John & Patrick Witkowski. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday Nov. 10th at 9AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8PM.
