Obituary

Thomas F. Dillon passed away at his home in Melrose on January 25, 2014. He was 89 years of age. Mr. Dillon was born in Somerville on July 25, 1924 to the late Thomas J. & Maude (Sweeney) Dillon. He was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School. Thomas entered the service in 1943 and served his country with pride in the US Army Air Corps. He was a proud member of the teamsters local #25 working as a truck driver for many years with St. Johnsbury trucking and Darcy Trucking. He went on to sales and ended up as Vice President of Crystal Meat and Cheese Company in East Boston. Thomas lived in Wakefield for over 50 years and the past 13 years in Melrose. Mr. Dillon was past grand knight of the K of C in Wakefield where he was instrumental in acquiring the building they are presently in. He was also a member of the VFW Harold O'Young Post #2394 in Melrose and the Saugus Elks, where he worked as a bartender for many years. Mr. Dillon had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed photography and fishing and was a member of the Melrose Mirror where he took photos and wrote articles for their publication. Thomas was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Francis) Dillon. Loving father of Thomas F. Dillon Jr. & his wife Deborah of NH, Donna M. Dillon of Beverly, Patty Hinds & her husband Dana of NH and Maura Dillon & Bryan Cerullo of Billerica. Proud grandfather of Danielle, Dana, Dane, Darcy, Devon & Joshua. Great grandfather of Lorraine. Brother of Eileen Dillon, Claire Fitzgerald, Grace Feeney and the late Raymond Dillon, Mary Jones, Dorothy Coleman, Patricia O'Neil and Frances Coughlin. Also survived by numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday January 31st at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8PM. Interment with military honors at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne. WWII Army Air Corps Veteran.
