Thomas M. O'Brien, 99, died at Melrose Wakefield Hospital on Saturday morning after a brief illness.He was born and raised in Malden and graduated fom Malden High School. Tom was a longtime employee of the Boston Record American newspaper. He was a resident of Melrose for over 60 years and a parishioner of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield.Tom was the husband of the late Margaret W. (Farrar) O'Brien and Father of the late Janet G. (O'Brien) Smith. Father-in-law of Horace F. Smith of Lynnfield. Brother-in-law of Fay O'Brien of Revere. Uncle of John T. Kerrigan of Malden, John O'Brien of Salem, NH, Lorraine Coughlin of Reading, Rita Lincoln of Everett, Loreen Lefaver of ME, Patricia O'Leary of Malden, Susan Hagans of FL, and Peter Marconi of WI. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home79 W Foster St., Melrose on Tues Sept 30 at 10:30 AM. Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St Wakefield at 11 AM.
