Timothy Joseph McCarthy passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at Melrose Wakefield Hospital after a brief illness.

Aged 79, he was a resident of Melrose for many years, having spent much of his life in Cambridge.

He was born in Somerville on May 15, 1945. He was the eldest of five siblings. After graduating from high school, he briefly served in the US Air Force. He was an ironworker for many years and worked on several buildings around Boston including the John Hancock Tower. He was a union supporter and proud member of Iron Workers Local 7.

When his son Brian was younger, they enjoyed going to the movies, local amusement parks, concerts, sporting events, and the beach. He enjoyed spending time with friends at the local Elks lodge.

Timothy was predeceased by his father Francis McCarthy, his mother Mary Emelda (Feeney) McCarthy, his brother Michael McCarthy, and sister Catherine McCarthy. He is survived by his son Brian McCarthy, granddaughter Ziggy McCarthy, and brothers Robert and John McCarthy.

Funeral services will be private.
