Obituary

Victor J. Leone Sr. died peacefully at home on August 13, 2015. He was 93 years of age. Victor was born on January 13, 1922 to the late Nicola & Michelina (DeBenedictis) Leone. He was raised in the West End of Boston and graduated from Mechanic Arts High School. Mr. Leone entered the US Army in 1940 and served his country with pride for 5 years during WWII. Victor lived in Everett for many years before moving to Melrose in 1959. He and his wife Louise were the owners of Leone's Sub & Pizza on Broadway in Somerville for many years, greeting patrons year after year and always contributing to the community in numerous ways. Mr. Leone was a talented artist, enjoyed painting, and loved taking trips to Hawaii and going on cruises. Victor had a summer home at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester which he enjoyed for over 10 years. He was a member of the Medford Elks and the Malden Moose Club. But above all Victor loved spending time with family and friends. Mr. Leone was the beloved husband of 69 years to Louise J. (Albano) Leone. Devoted father of Margaret Leone of Tewksbury and Victor J. Leone Jr. & his wife Carolina of Lynnfield. Loving brother of Margaret Benedict & Gloria Leone both of Gloucester and the late Amadeo Leone & Richard Leone. Cherished grandfather of Matthew Pescatore & his wife Pina of Tewksbury, Melissa Tognarelli & her husband Kirk of Tewksbury, Anthony Leone & his wife Sarah of Boston and Alicia Leone of Lynnfield. Proud great grandfather of Matthew, Alex, Sofia, Mason & Stella Rose. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday August 17, 2015 from 4:00-8:00Pm. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday August 18th at 8:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 9:00AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment with Military Honors at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford will follow. WWII Army Veteran.
