Vincent G. Houten passed away at Kindred Hospital in Boston, on May 30th, at the age of 73. Vincent was born and raised in Boston, graduated from high school in Boston, Bunker Hill Community College, and Boston State with a teaching degree. Mr. Houten was a US Army Korean War Veteran and was a Purple Heart recipient. He worked as a letter carrier for several years in the 1960s, was a self-employed upholsterer in Saugus for many years and was a shop teacher at St. Marys School for Handicapped Children in Randolph, in the 1980s. Vincent lived in Revere for 20 years and has been a resident of Saugus for the past 22 years. Mr. Houten was a life member & the present Commander of the VFW Post #2346 in Saugus, a member of the 5th Regimental Combat Team of Hawaii, a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a member of the DAV Chapter #85 in Malden, American Legion Post #210 in Saugus, Korean War Veterans Assoc., the Melrose AA and the K of C in Saugus. Vincent was the beloved & devoted husband of Irene L. (Ciampa) Houten for 52 years. Cherished father of Loraine Lori Bonia of NH, Joyce Murray, Philip Houten both of Saugus, Yvonne Lentini, Carolyn McElligott, Mary Houten all of Melrose and the late Janet M. Davis. Brother of Maurice T. Houten USN Retired of CA, Francis H. Houten of Wakefield and the late Philip & John Houten. Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday June 3rd at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Thurs. 2-4 & 7-9PM. Burial to follow in the VA National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:15PM. Memorial contributions may be made to N.E.
