Vincentia L. "Vinnie" (Korklenewski) Markelionis passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. She was 94 years of age. Vinnie was born in Brighton on June 26, 1919 to the late John & Lucy (Sharkin) Korklenewski, she was raised in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School, Class of 1937. She served her country proudly in the US Navy as a Wave during WWII. Mrs. Markelionis has been a resident of Melrose since 1949. After raising her family she worked as a recreational therapist at the Don Orion Home in East Boston for 13 years. She enjoyed yoga, playing bridge, going to the Milano Senior Center and the Melrose YMCA. Vinnie was also a member of the Melrose Veterans Club and the Lithuania Club in South Boston. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Markelionis. Loving Mother of the late Dennis & Paul Markelionis. Sister-in-law of Stella Mockus of FL and the late Martha Puzinas. Aunt of Elaine O'Malley of CT, Ettore "Torey" De Francesco & his late wife Joanne of Revere, Katherine & Jack Czopor of Roslindale. Also survived by several grand nieces & nephews and great grand nieces & nephews. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tuesday, November 5th from 9:30-10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 11:00AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will follow with military honors at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
