Viola M. ""Vi" (Cefalo) Lailer passed away at Winchester Hospital on Friday, October 15, 2010. She was 92 years of age. Viola was born in Melrose on October 22, 1917 to the late Generoso & Rosario Cefalo. She was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School and has been a lifelong resident. Mrs. Lailer was a homemaker and in her early years she worked at her parent's florist shop on Linwood Ave. in Melrose. Viola was a wonderful cook; she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, exercise classes at the YMCA, loved to travel and enjoyed her trips with the senior groups. She was dedicated to her family and truly enjoyed the times spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. Viola was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Melrose, a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross and an active member with AARP. Mrs. Lailer was the beloved wife of the late Robert H. Lailer. Loving mother of Joanne Weyland & her late husband Donald of Saco, ME, Carol A. Edwards & her husband Steve of Portsmouth, NH and Robert H. Lailer Jr. & his wife Ginny of Chelmsford. Cherished grandmother of Robert & Jeannie Ford, Jeanette & James Rice, Danielle & John Donahue Jr., Jennifer & Paul Wentworth Jr., Robert H. Lailer III & Daniel Lailer. Great grandmother of Austin, Ethan & Aiden. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Viola will be held at the First Baptist Church, 561 Main St. Melrose, on Wednesday, October 20th at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
