Virginia M. (McShane) Bowes passed away at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on March 14, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband Walter P. Bowes by 6 days. Virginia was born in Boston on December 22, 1925 to the late Michael & Anna (Carroll) McShane. She was raised in Mission Hill and graduated from Mission Hill High. Mrs. Bowes has been a resident of Saugus for the past 50 years and was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Saugus. She was a homemaker and had also worked as a bookkeeper at T.W. Rogers Department Store and at Hinkle Oil Company in Saugus for several years. Virginia loved going to Bingo, was an avid reader and enjoyed taking trips to Cape Cod and Maryland. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose cherished her family and her 8 grandchildren. Mrs. Bowes in now reunited with her husband of 55 years, Walter P. Bowes, who passed away on March 8, 2016. Loving mother of Janice Colpitts & her husband Tom of Rowley, Carolyn MacLean & her husband Scott of Tewksbury and Dianne Bowes-Hudson & her husband Jim of Northboro. Devoted grandmother of Thomas Jr., Daniel & Amanda Colpitts, Connor, Haley & Andrew MacLean and Shane & Jake Hudson. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends may gather at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 9:00-9:30AM, before leaving in procession for a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St. Saugus, at 10:00AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Memorial contributions may be made in Virginia's name to a charity of one's choice.
