December 21, 1938 – December 9, 2025
Virginia "Ginny" Colbert, 86, of Melrose, was at home surrounded by Eddie, Karen, Kristina, Edward and several grandchildren when she passed away. Born and raised in Everett, Ginny married, and settled in Melrose where she worked as secretary to the principal at Lincoln Elementary, secretary to the director of Guidance and the principal of Melrose High. After retiring, she became "administrative assistant" to the director of MPS's Early Childhood Center. She loved helping people – enjoyed walking to the workplace, her coworkers and bosses, the hectic daily pace and most of all, the kids!
Ginny is survived by her sister Lillian Raymond; her husband of 64 years Edward "Eddie" Colbert; daughter Karen, son-in-law James Cronin, granddaughter Megan, her husband Dillon Martin, granddaughter Hanna, her husband Ryan Fay, granddaughter Molly Cronin, her fiancé Aiden O'Connell; daughter Kristina, son-in-law David Colbert Lourie, grandsons Barker Colbert-Regan, Jared Lourie, Nathan Lourie, Heath Colbert Lourie; son Edward Colbert III, granddaughter Caroline, grandson William. Ginny was also blessed with four precious great-grandchildren: Landon, Layne, Layla, Eloise and numerous cousins and dear friends. Ginny is predeceased by her parents, Carmela and William Lucci, her brother and his wife, Ralph and Pauline Lucci, their daughter/her niece Teresa, her brother-in-law Wayne Raymond.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster Street, Melrose. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield. Interment will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 185 Lake Street, Peabody. Family & Friend's respectfully invited to attend.
