Virginia M. (Lord) Tierney of Melrose, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Greenbrier Terrace Healthcare Center of Nashua, NH. She was 87 years of age. Born on October 26, 1922, in Cambridge, MA, a daughter to the late Clarence & Lillian (McDonough) Lord, she was raised in Melrose and a graduate from Melrose High School in 1940. She became a Registered Nurse, working at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital for 8 years. Ginny then left the hospital to raise her family but continued to care for the neighborhood kids when anyone would get hurt. She enjoyed all crafts, knitting, crocheting and traveling with her husband and kids. Mrs. Tierney was the devoted wife of the late John A. Tierney, Jr., with whom they shared 49 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of James C. Tierney of Redwood, CA, & Marie L. Grazulis & her husband William of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, William J. Tierney of Crystal River, FL. & Linda A. Perrine & her husband Henry of Orlando, FL. Cherished grandmother of 5. Caring sister of Anne B. Knowles & her husband Charles of Durham, NH & the late Beverly J. Russell. Sister-in-law of Msgr. James E. Tierney of Boston & the late Helen M. DeCoste. Also survived by a nephew Mark B. Knowles of CA. Funeral from the Gately Funeral home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Mon. March 8th at 8AM.
