Obituary

Walter S. Allan of Melrose, MA, formerly of Sudbury, and husband of Charlene Russell, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, after a very long struggle with Lewy Body disease.

He is survived by his children: Ian and his wife Kelsee, Cameron, Deborah and her husband Eric, Scott, and Elizabeth and her husband Franco. He is also survived by grandchildren: Brienne, Luca, and Enzo, and a great-grandchild Bea. Another grandchild is expected in April. Others surviving him include his brother Donald Sr. and his wife Sharon; numerous in-laws; nephews and nieces; and friends. He also had a special relationship with his cousin, Dr. John Clapp.

Walter was born in Newton-Wellesley hospital on June 6, 1942, to Leah C. and W. Scott Allan and lived in many different places, including Memphis TN, because of his father's military service during WW2. At the end of his third grade, his family settled in Scituate, MA where he graduated in 1960. While in high school, he was on the student council, cross country team and basketball team (Sr. Yr. Captain). After high school, he graduated from Boston University. While at BU, he also worked for Liberty Mutual with their early vintage main-frame computers. After doing computer programming for another company and a hospital, he joined a newly formed company called Computer Partners. He worked for Partners, which eventually became part of CSC, until he was 72 years old. His nephew, Robert, who worked with him for 15 of those years recalls how respected and beloved he was as a Managing Partner, and that he had a rare combination for a person in that position of brilliance, humility and sharp, dry humor.

Walter loved the Red Sox and the Celtics from a very early age. Later in his life, he especially enjoyed watching them on TV with Ian, Cameron and their friends. He also enjoyed reading and walking the beaches near their second home on Cape Cod. The White Mts. were also a special place for him because of the family history of Tamarack Lodge that his grandfather, John Clapp, had built around 1900 on the north side of Cannon Mt.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 4:00PM-7:00PM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, MA.
