Obituary

Walter C. Chipman, of Melrose, died at the Golden Living Center-The Elmhurst in Melrose on Dec. 31, 2016 at the age of 89. Walter was born & raised in Everett and a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1945. After high school, Walter served his country as a bodyguard for General MacArthur in the U.S. Army during WWII and was on the USS Admiral H. T. Mayo transport ship that hit a typhoon in the Pacific. After returning from WWII, Walter resided in Melrose for 50 years and worked as a Carpenter, Foreman & Business Representative for the Carpenters Union Local #218 for 27 years and enjoyed spending time smoking cigars on his deck. Walter liked traveling and taking cruises with his partner of 20 years Angela Corso and spending time with their extended family. He was an honest family man who's children & grandchildren were the most important part of his life. Walter was survived by the love of his life Angela "Angie" Corso of Methuen. He was the devoted father of Gary Chipman & his wife Maureen of NH and John A. "Jackie" Chipman of CO. Cherished grandfather of Andrea & Matthew Chipman. Former husband of the late Rose Marie (Lux) D'Attilio. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, Jan. 5th from 9-10AM, followed by a funeral service at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 25 Shawmut Rd., Canton, MA 02021.
