Walter L. 'Sonny' Olson Jr.died at his home in Melrose on August 1st. after a brief illness at the age of 68. Walter attended the Melrose School System and was a lifelong Melrose resident. He was in the Air Force during the Korean War & worked as a truckdriver for Deering Lumber Company in Melrose for 20 years. Walter was the husband of Cynthia A. (Hawes) Olson. Father of Michelle Perez & Kyle Olson of Melrose. Stepfather of Lisa Smith & her husband Joseph of W. Peabody, Sharon Santaniello of Medford, and David O' Connell & his wife Jessica of Myrtle Beach, SC. Brother of Barbara Foss & her husband Kenneth & Wayne Olson and his wife Debra of Melrose. Mr. Olson was survived by 10 Grandchildren, Joseph, Nicole, Mark, Patrick, Nicholas, Cameron, Cloey and Avery. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, August 4th at 11:00AM Relatives & friends invited.There will be no visiting hours.
