Walter R. Russ ONeil of Warner N.H. formerly of Melrose, passed away Aug.23, 2006 at the age of 88. Born & raised in Melrose to the late Patrick & Nora (Ryan) ONeil, he graduated from Melrose High School class of 1936. Mr. ONeil served in the U S Army Air Corp. during World War II as a Technical Sergeant. He worked as a union carpenter & was a member of the Local 40 Carpenters & Joiners Union for over 40 years. Russ & his wife Anne lived in Melrose until 1980 before moving to Warner, New Hampshire. He was the devoted husband of the late Anne E. (Chaisson) ONeil. Loving father of James R. ONeil & his wife Linda E. of Hampton, NH, Stephen E. ONeil of Concord, NH, Anne F. ONeil of Warner, NH, Patricia ONeil of Charlotte, NC, & Timothy P. ONeil & his wife Linda A. of Wakefield. Cherished grandfather of Kristen Murray & her husband Sean, Jennifer, Andrew, Rebecca, & Brian ONeil and Lindsay Govostes. Great grandfather of Anna & Julia Murray. Caring brother of Fr. Francis ONeil, Margaret Ruth OConnell & the late Leo Bud & Joseph ONeil. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tues. Aug. 29th at 10AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church Herbert St. Melrose at 11AM. Family & friends invited. Visiting hours Mon. from 4-8PM. Interment in St. Patricks Cemetery, Stoneham, MA.
