Walter E. "Ed" Valentine, of Melrose, passed away at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on January 24, 2015 at the age of 68. Ed was the former husband of the late Irene (Fontaine) Valentine. He was the loving father of David Valentine and daughter-in-law Mary Foley. Ed had also recently become the grandfather to Dylan. He was the brother to Mario, Maria, Steven, Angelo, David, and Cindy. Ed is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ed was raised in Saugus, MA where he graduated from Saugus High School. Soon after that he moved to Melrose, where he raised his own family. Ed was self-employed as a private investigator for many years. He had recently become the proud grandfather of Dylan. Ed could always be seen wearing his favorite pair of cowboy boots. He had an extensive gun collection and enjoyed spending time up keeping and shooting his guns. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, MA from 4-7PM followed by a prayer service at 7PM.
