Wendell William Stephens, 58, passed away on July 2, 2026.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 16, 1967, Wendell was the beloved son of Patricia Stephens of Melrose and the late Wendell Stephens. He graduated from Melrose High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Salem State College.

Wendell was known as a hardworking man who was deeply loyal to those he loved. For the past seven years, he was a proud member of Teamsters Local 25, following a long career in the car rental industry, where he built many lasting friendships.

Above all, Wendell loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Andrea Stephens; his son, Christopher Stephens and his wife, Courtney, of Maine; his daughter, Julia Stephens and her partner, Patrick, of East Hampton, New York; and his son, Matthew Stephens of Lynnfield, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his loving mother, Patricia Stephens of Melrose; his sisters, Michelle Camuso and her husband, Robert, of Saugus, and Illona Sullivan and her husband, Jim, of Saugus; one niece, four nephews, many aunts, uncles, and numerous first cousins in Ireland. He was predeceased by his father, Wendell Stephens.

Wendell found peace by the ocean and especially looked forward to his family’s trips to Maine, Cape Cod, and the Caribbean. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Willie, whose companionship brought him great joy.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Wendell’s life on Friday, July 10, 2026. Visiting hours will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Gately Funeral Home in Melrose, Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Melrose. Interment Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.

Wendell will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his strong work ethic, and the love he had for his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
