William H."Bill" Carnes, Sr., of Melrose, died at the Golden Living Center Elmhurst in Melrose on July 20, 2013 at the age of 70. Bill was born in Charlestown, raised in Somerville and a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Cambridge. He resided in Medford for 13 years and the past 30 years in Melrose. Bill served in the Army during the Vietnam War era. Bill was a truck driver at Spector Freight, Roadway Express and Star Market prior to being elected to office as Vice President/Business Agent for Teamsters Local 25. He loved to travel with his family; favorite destinations included the Bahamas, Aruba, Ireland, Alaska as well as the Continental United States. Bill enjoyed golfing and was a member of the 100 Club of Boston. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor Anne (Kennedy) Carnes for 47 years. Loving father of Stacey Anne Carnes of North Reading and William H. Carnes, Jr. & his wife Pamela of Long Island, NY. Cherished grandfather of Megan Ashley & Lauren Debra Carnes. Caring brother of Marie McCarthy & her husband Michael of NH, Robert Carnes & his wife Lynne of Somerville and the late Gertrude "Trudy" Carnes, John, Edward and Joseph Carnes. Also survived by numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, July 24th at 8:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4-8PM.
