William J. Dwyer passed away at the VA Medical Center in Bedford, on September 24, 2007, he was 91. Born in Charlestown, he was raised in Charlestown & Revere and graduated from Revere High School. William served with the US Marines 5th Division during WWII and was at Iwo Jima when the flag was raised on the island. He was very active with the DAV Chapter #112 in Revere, was instrumental in making it the largest DAV Post by recruiting and helping veterans get the benefits they deserved. Mr. Dwyer was a former member of the Executive Board for the State DAV Chapter and was a former member of the VFW LT Norman Prince Post #1506 in Melrose. Bill worked as a custodian for the Revere Public School for over 25 years and has been a resident of Melrose for over 40 years. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid ballroom dancer, loved to travel in the US & Europe, enjoyed summer vacations at Lake Winnipesaukee in NH and winter vacations in Tampa FL for over 30 years. He was the husband of 60 years to Marion F. (Lord) Dwyer. Father of Nancy DAmico, Janet Dembro & her husband Arthur all of Wakefield, Officer David L. Dwyer & his wife Maria of Melrose, Lauren McCallman & her husband George of FL and the late Thomas W. Dwyer. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Sat. Sept. 29th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited.
