Mr. William C. "Bill" Huntress, Jr. of Danvers, formerly of Melrose & Rio Verde, AZ died on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Putnam Farms Assisted Living Facility in Danvers. He was 81 years old. Born on May 4, 1931 in Rutland, Vermont, he was a son to the late William C. & Marion (Armington) Huntress. Bill graduated from the Vermont Academy and Boston University, Class of 1953 as a member of the SAE Fraternity. He joined the Army Reserve in July of 1953 and served as a Corporal until August of 1960. Mr. Huntress was the founder and owner of the Huntress Insurance Company of Melrose from 1958 until December 31, 1989. He served on the Board of Governors at Bellevue Country Club & the Salem Country Club, was the Past President of the Melrose Rotary Club and the first ever recipient of the Paul Harris Award for exceptional service to his community; an award he would receive twice during his membership. He served the City of Melrose on the Personnel Board and retired from that board to serve on the Melrose School Committee. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Melrose for 72 years. A Corporator for the Melrose Wakefield Hospital, a member of the National Agents Advisor's Counsel and a Board of Director's Member of Middlesex Bank. Bill was a Mason for 50 years and a Little League & Youth Hockey Coach in Melrose. He was a Melrose resident from 1958 until 2010 and a snowbird since 1968 in Rio Verde, Arizona. Mr. Huntress was the devoted husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Otis) Huntress with whom he shared almost 60 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Beverly H. Russo & her husband Randel of Ellington, CT, William C. Huntress, III & his wife Henrike of Boxford & Barbara H. Tresness & her husband Greg of Manlius, NY. Cherished grandfather of Richard Russo, Sarah Pashe, Tyler & Caroline Huntress, Colby, Tysen & Graham Tresness. Great Grandfather of Rian, Joseph, Caleb & Keegan Russo & Nathan & Julianne Pashe. Brother of the late Louise Daniels & her husband, long time Melrose resident Robert Daniels, now of Peabody. Brother-in-law of James Otis & his wife Margaret of Melrose & Virginia Williams & her husband Albert of NH. A Funeral Service will be held in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday, October 20th at 11AM with Rev. Domenic Taranowski of the First Congregational Church officiating. Relatives & friends respectfully invited.
