William E. McNaught passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital, on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2008. A WWII Navy Veteran and a veteran of the Malden Police Department, Mr. McNaught was born in Malden, raised in Malden, graduated from Malden High School and was a lifelong resident. William served in the US Navy during WWII before joining the Malden Police Department. He worked as a patrolman and later a sergeant in the Maplewood, Linden and Suffolk Square sections of the city. Mr. McNaught was promoted to Lieutenant in 1968 and served as a Prosecutor from 1969 to his retirement in 1982, after 38 years of service. Mr. McNaught was a humble gentleman with a seemingly endless stream of stories. He was very proud of his home he built in Malden, enjoyed working indoors and out and loved to work with his hands. He installed a swimming pool for the grandchildren and cherished the times spent with his family. Mr. McNaught and his late wife Dorothy enjoyed traveling but was always happy to return to his home. Devoted husband of the late Dorothy R. (Mulcahy) McNaught. Beloved father of Pat Menesale & her husband Al of Centerville, Kay Bennett & her husband Tom of Melrose and Janet Flores & her husband Joe of Hudson, NH. Caring brother of Ted McNaught of Medford and the late Kathryn Lawless, John J. McNaught, James McNaught & Joseph McNaught. Loving grandfather of Sheryl, Mark, Jay, Julie, Mike, Jim, Scott, Bill & Kevin. Also survived by 17 great grandchildren, a deceased great grandson Jason Clarke and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Sat. Nov. 15th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St. Malden, at 9AM.
