William E. 'Bill' Salie died at the V.A. Hospital in Bedford Sept. 17 at the age of 82. He was born in Roxbury, raised in Malden and lived in Melrose since 1957. Bill was a WWII Navy veteran and received his Honorary High School degree from the Malden High School in the year 2000. He was a brickmason for Eastern Refractories Inc. of Belmont for 30 Years until he retired in 1982 and was a member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftsworkers Union Local 3 of Eastern Mass. for 50 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 0462 in Boston, V.F.W. Post 15022 and a Life member of Disabled American Veterans of Mass. #120. Bill worked as a Volunteer for the Melrose Wakefield Hospital and the Melrose School System and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Melrose since 1957. He was the husband of the late Essie E. (Gould) Salie. Father of William E. Salie Jr and his wife Joan of Boxford, and Stephen J. Salie and his wife Genevieve of NJ. Grandfather of William E. Salie III and his wife Kristen M. Bessette of Boxford, Erin E. Alli and her husband Salvatore of PA and Jennifer L. Salie of NJ. Brother of George N. Salie of Malden and Marquarite Weaver of FL. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday Sept. 23 at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, corner of Herbert & Myrtle St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 5-8PM. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
