Winifred M. Winnie (Churchill) Doherty passed away at Winchester Hospital, on February 14, 2007; she was 56 years of age. Winnie was born in Everett, raised in Everett & Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1968. She has been a lifelong resident of Melrose. Mrs. Doherty worked in management for the New England Telephone Company/Verizon for over 35 years. She was the Junior Vice Commander and a member of the VFW Harold OYoung Post # 2394 Ladies Auxiliary in Melrose. Winnie loved Aerosmith, was a member of the fan club Aeroforce 1, enjoyed going to concerts and was a lover of music, especially rock & roll. Mrs. Doherty was involved in the relay for life with the American Cancer Society, participating as a cancer survivor for 7 years. She was also a contributor of the North Shore Music Theater, where she attended many plays over the years. Beloved mother of Jeffrey M. Doherty of Melrose. Loving daughter to the late Chester P. & Winifred Gloria (Molloy) Churchill. Devoted sister of Cathleen A. Churchill of Melrose. Niece of Denise M. Sanborn of OH and former wife of Dennis M. Doherty of NH. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, Feb. 19th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8PM. Interment in Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield will be private.
