Yolanda "Ann" Bertull, age 93, resident of Stoneham, formerly of East Boston, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 27, 1915 in East Boston, Massachusetts. Her family had migrated from Fano, Italy in 1913. She was raised and attended schools in East Boston and Everett, MA. She graduated from high school in Everett, MA. and then became a seamstress for Brooks Brothers. In the 1935 she entered the Marist Missionary Sisters. As part of her training for missionary work she attended Fordham University and received a degree in pharmacy. During World War II, she worked at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She began her missionary work in 1945 at a leper colony in Jamaica. She continued her missionary work in New Guinea. While in service there she developed malaria and was transferred to New Zealand to recuperate. In 1955 she left the Marist Sisters and returned to Boston. She resided in Everett MA with her mother, Annunziata Bertulli. They eventually relocated to East Boston. After she returned, Yolanda began a long career with Trans World Airlines (TWA) as a reservationist. She enjoyed her work and developed many strong friendships with co-workers. She also enjoyed many opportunities to travel to Europe and other locations throughout the world. She is survived by a number of close nieces, nephews and their families: Doris (Lepore) Ford of Naples FL and Northwood, NH, John Lepore of Coronado Island, CA, Louis Labadini of East Boston, Ernest Labadini of Hyde Park, Catherine Bertulli of Melrose MA, Anne (Bertulli) Whitehouse of Isleboro, ME, Robert Bertulli of Bowdoinham, ME, Mary (Bertulli) Brooks of Dracut, MA and Karleen (Bertulli) Andrews of Farmington, ME. She was predeceased by her parents, Luigi and Annunziata (Francolini) Bertulli, her sisters and their husbands, Mary and Charles Lepore of Everett, MA and Alda and Ernie Labadini of East Boston, MA., and by her brother Elvidio Bertulli and his wife Mary Frances (Logan) Bertulli of Melrose, MA. She was predeceased by a niece, Flossie Lepore and a nephew, Brian Bertulli. Yolanda will always be remembered for her loving devotion to her mother and family, her quiet and gentle demeanor, her warm smile and friendliness, her love of pets and animals, her willingness and interest in serving others, and her enduring faith and love of God and church.
