Zachary A. Goodwin, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2026, at Winchester Hospital. Born on February 25, 1995, at The Boston Regional Medical Center in Stoneham to Francis B. and Michele Goodwin, Zachary was raised in Melrose and attended local schools, graduating from Melrose High School, Class of 2013. For many years, he played various sports in Melrose recreational leagues, eventually discovering his love for baseball—from Melrose Federal, National, and Babe Ruth Leagues through JV and Varsity Baseball at Melrose High School.
After high school, he worked in various local restaurants before finding his passion in scaffolding. He joined the Local 668 Laborers’ Union and was employed on various projects over the past couple of years.
Zack enjoyed summers at York Beach, Maine, where his family has vacationed for many years, spending time at the beach and enjoying various activities with lifelong friends. He loved to travel and experience new adventures. He loved to cook and, even more, truly enjoyed a good home-cooked meal. He adored his nieces and nephew, treasured his time with friends, and was always up for a good party or quietly catching up by a fire. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
Zack is survived by his devoted parents, Francis and Michele (Pilla) Goodwin; sisters Natalie Cantwell and her husband Jason of Houston, TX, and Jacqueline Flodin and her husband Ryan of Chester, NH; brothers Francis Goodwin of Kingston, MA, Nathan Goodwin and his wife Narissa of Wiscasset, ME, and Gabriel Goodwin of Santa Cruz, CA. He was the beloved grandson of Frances Pilla of Cheshire, CT; uncle to Serenity, Mackenzie, Austin, Isla, and Alara; and loving boyfriend of Jackie Taddeo of Somerville, MA, with whom he shared many joyous times. Being the youngest of 40 first cousins, he also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 4:00PM-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 4 Herbert St., Melrose on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 10:00AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment to follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
